Tree-Climbing Lion spotting Safari in Uganda
Most people will hope to see lions while on safari in Africa. Luckily, lions are not quite as difficult to spot as rhinos or leopards. Uganda is one of the best safari destinations in Africa, where you can easily spot lions. Unlike most felines, lions are actually quite social and live in prides of up to 15 members, which may include males, females, and their young (Cubs). So, you can get the chance to watch the little ones play and interact with their bored-looking mothers. There is nothing quite so chilling as hearing a lion roar in the night while you are camping, but they are actually not prone to attacking humans.
From the comfort of your open-roof and air-conditioned safari car, you can take a half-day or full-day game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may see a thousand free-roaming animals. A game drive through Queen Elizabeth National Park lets you enjoy the antics of lions, zebras, African elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, several antelopes, bushbucks, and many other fascinating creatures.
Spotting Tree-Climbing Lions
Worldwide, there are only two populations of tree-climbing lions and Uganda boasts one of them. In
Uganda, tree-climbing lions are found in the Ishasha sector, located in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
A game drive through the Ishasha Sector rewards you with real-life time experience with an encounter with Lions resting on trees, in addition to other animals.
While cubs climb trees for fun, adult lions rarely do; they climb trees in order to get away from tsetse flies (large flies with a nasty bite). They also tend to climb trees to enjoy a cool breeze up in fig trees.
Although tree lions are difficult to spot, the staff and management of Queen Elizabeth National Park record daily sightings; they thus have a good idea about their movements within the park. The fig trees the lions climb line the roads in the Ishasha sector of the park, giving you a chance to see the lions close to your vehicle, which offers a clear platform for photography.
