6 Days Rwanda Primate Safari for gorillas and chimpanzees

Detailed Itinerary
- Day 1: Day 2: Kigali – Nyungwe National park
Your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast and drive directly to Nyungwe National Park (5-6 hours). En route, visit Nyanza King’s palace, have lunch in Butare town, visit the Rwanda National Museum in Huye, and the Murambi genocide memorial museum. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe forest lodge / Gisakura Guest House / Nyungwe Hill top View hotel.
- Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking, Canopy walk or Colobus Monkeys

Start early with a heavy breakfast, enter Nyungwe forest to search for wild chimpanzees (Habituated). Expect encounters with other primates, including black-and-white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, and golden monkeys, as well as many forest bird species. Retire for lunch and either go for colobus monkey tracking or take the adventurous canopy walk. Dinner and overnight as on Day 1.
- Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National park
Breakfast, then transfer to the home of the mountain gorillas in Ruhengeri. We can use our 4×4 safari vehicle or use a boat on Lake Kivu (Extra payment). If you travel by boat, our vehicle can meet us in Gisenyi, and we will then continue our journey to Volcanoes National Park. Overnight at Le Bamboo Gorilla Lodge or Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Virunga Lodge / Bisate Wild Lodge.
- Day 4: Mountain Gorilla Trekking Adventure

Breakfast, followed by a transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla tracking. The trek takes 1-7 hours, depending on the gorillas’ movement. Sightseeing and staying with these gentle giants is for 1 hour for observation and photography. Relax at your lodge/hotel in the evening. Or we can take a community walk or cultural entertainment in nearby communities. Dinner & overnight at your lodge on DAY 3.
- Day 5: Second gorilla trekking (Optional)
Second gorilla trek in Volcanoes Gorilla park (different gorilla family), then afternoon nature walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera & Ruhondo. Overnight at your lodge on DAY 3.
- Day 6: Golden monkey trek or Dian Fossey hiking, Departure
We either go for golden monkey tracking or hike to Dian Fossey tombs. Return by mid-day, have lunch and drive back to Kigali for last-minute shopping, later proceed to the airport for your scheduled departure flight.
