8 Days Chimpanzee Safari and Gorilla Tracking Tour

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

Have breakfast at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe, then embark on our 4×4 jeep to Murchison Falls National Park, with an en-route visit to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary (lunch en route) and a visit to the top of the falls, where the mighty River Nile perfects its beauty. Dinner and overnight stay at Nile safari camp, Paraa safari lodge, Red Chilli Camp or Murchison River Lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking at Kaniyo Pabidi Forest – Afternoon Launch Cruise

Breakfast at your lodge, then proceed to Kanio Pabidi Park headquarters for a briefing on chimp and other primate tracking here. In the afternoon, join a launch cruise upstream of the falls, which takes around three hours. Dinner and overnight stay at Nile safari camp, Paraa safari lodge, Red Chilli Camp, or Murchison River Lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Today, wake up early, have breakfast, check out, drive to Kibale Forest National Park, have lunch en route, and arrive in Kibale by late afternoon. Relax at your lodge as you wait for dinner at Primate Lodge, Ndali Lodge, Kyaninga Lodge, or Chimp’s Nest Lodge.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking Adventure & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After an early morning breakfast, transfer to Kanyanchu tourist centre for registration and a briefing about the chimpanzee trekking guide.  and get briefed by the authority guide before you proceed to track chimpanzees in the forest. At 8:00 am, start the trek to see chimpanzees. You will spend an hour in the company of chimpanzees, embrace their human-like characters and take pics.  The forest is also home to Colobus Monkeys, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, grey Galagos, Vervet Monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, Blue Monkeys, and about 350 bird species. Return to the lodge, refresh and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge, Enganzi Lodge, SongBird Safari Lodge.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura & Launch Cruise

Have an early morning breakfast and transfer to Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee trekking. Enjoy a cool nature walk in this underground forest, spend an hour with chimpanzees and enjoy their company. After lunch, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel to see many animals, such as hippos, elephants, buffalo, and an array of water birds. Dinner and overnight at as on Day 4.

Day 6:Transfer to  Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, depart for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, passing either via Ishasha, the home of the tree-climbing lion or take the alternative route through cultivated expanses. Dinner and overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp, Buhoma Community Rest Camp, Mahogany Springs Lodge, or Gorilla Mist Camp.

Day 7: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Start the day with a cup of coffee, pick up your packed lunch, and drive to the park headquarters for registration and a pre-gorilla trek briefing.  At 8:00 am, start off the gorilla trekking adventure, which takes between 30 minutes and a full day depending on where the gorillas will be that day.  In the evening, if time allows, you will visit Batwa pygmies for a cultural performance and learn about their traditional forest life. Dinner and overnight as on Day 6.

Day 8: Departure

Have an early breakfast and start a picnic drive back to Kampala; lunch en route; stop at the equator for photography; reach Kampala late afternoon; drop off at Entebbe Airport for your scheduled departure flight, or at your hotel in Kampala /Entebbe.
