Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Southwestern Uganda (4-hour drive)

Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest – Uganda


 

Pick up from your hotel in Kigali or from the Airport upon arrival, and start with a visit to the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Museum in Kigali, followed by lunch, and later transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via Katuna or Cyanika borders. The journey passes through the Kigezi region, famously known as the “Switzerland of Africa,” characterised by majestic rolling hills, deep valleys, and winding roads. Dinner and overnight stay at Rushaga Gorilla Lodge, Ichumbi Gorilla Camp, Gorilla safari Lodge or Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge.

 

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking, Departure

This is your day for a “life-changing event”: Mountain gorilla tracking. Start early with a heavy breakfast at the lodge (by 06:00h), then drive to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking in Bwindi National Park. You must be physically fit to go gorilla trekking. The trek takes 2-7 hours, depending on how these Gentle Giants move in their natural habitat! You can hire a porter to assist you during the trek; he can pull or push you when necessary and carry your packed water and lunch.

You will be guided by park rangers who will provide instructions throughout the trek. Meeting gorillas in the jungle is an adventure experience for a lifetime.

 

The thrill of encountering these gentle Giants erases all the bad memories you went through while searching for them. You will be given a maximum of 1 hour with the gorillas; enjoy them feeding, playing, and young ones swinging in the trees.

 

Return to your lodge for a hot lunch; refresh, then hit the road back to Kigali, where the tour ends.
